Six talented footballers from Oakham School have been picked for the regional ISFA U18 squad after taking part in trials. Alicia, Penny, Ulrike, Phoebe, Tuesday and Flora were all selected to join the Midlands U18 Girls squad after an intense day of trials, meaning that Oakham has the highest number of representatives in the squad. They are now preparing for the ISFA U18 Girls Regional Championship at Harrow School in March. The 1st XI Girls squad have enjoyed considerable success, having won the ISFA National Cup last year. Additionally, Alicia and Penny both play for the ISFA National U18 squad, with striker Alicia scoring numerous goals for the squad against university and senior ladies teams. Alicia also plays for Leicester City Women FC, who are currently top of the table in Midlands Division One of the FA Women’s Premier League. Team coach Rob Johnson said, “The coaching team are incredibly proud of the girls’ achievements this year and delighted to have a record six Oakhamians representing the Midlands region. Our focus on improving the basic skills, from the bottom up, continues to deliver effective players with strong technique.”
