Students help to decorate Nicaraguan school

A group of Sixth Form students from Sibford School near Banbury, Oxfordshire, has spent some of the summer holidays helping to decorate a school in Nicaragua. The students painted concrete pillars and window railings; sanded and varnished doors; varnished bricks and also painted tyres to use as plant pots. Bethan Robinson, who celebrated her 17th birthday during the visit said: “When we arrived at the school, we were overwhelmed by the welcome we received. Young children, parents and teachers clapped as we walked through the gates and a group of students performed traditional dances. It was really refreshing to see how much difference these little jobs meant to the community.” The visit to Nicaragua was organised by World Challenge and, as part of their expedition, the students also got to push themselves to their physical limits by completing a trek to visit some of the volcanoes that the country is famed for.
