Chafyn Grove - Wildlife Watchers

Published by Chafyn Grove School on Monday 26th of September 2016

Chafyn Grove is fortunate enough to host some colonies of mining bees in its grounds. A group of Year 6 girls noted that these areas were criss-crossed by routes used by the pupils, and launched an awareness campaign. The ‘Wildlife Watchers’ explained to the whole school that mining bees were not territorial, therefore they would not sting people walking over their burrows. However, it was important to respect the vital pollination work that they do and avoid accidentally damaging their homes. Thanks to the girls’ concern and commitment, all of the school have an enhanced appreciation of this facet of nature we host – and the bees have continued to make the best of the extra sunshine.
