Radiohead drummer hands over charity cheque

The day after it was announced that Radiohead would headline the 2017 Glastonbury Festival, the band’s drummer, Phil Selway, visited Sibford School near Banbury to hand over a cheque for £8,632 to the charity SeeSaw, which provides grief support for children and young people in Oxfordshire. The money was raised at a special auction held by the school’s parent association as part of their annual summer ball. One of the top fund-raising lots was a unique autographed copy of a special deluxe vinyl edition of Radiohead’s latest album, A Moon Shaped Pool, and Phil took time out to personally deliver the album and present the cheque to SeeSaw on the school’s behalf. Dr Helen Mackinnon, Director of SeeSaw, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to receive such generous support from Sibford School. As a charity we rely almost entirely on donations and a large amount like this will enable us to fund many things including memory boxes, family days out and training for our volunteers. “It will also support our ‘preparing for Christmas day’ … where we help families face-up to their first Christmas without a loved one.” Phil Selway said: “I was delighted to come along today to meet with SeeSaw. Losing a family member can be very hard and SeeSaw are doing some wonderful work to help people cope with such loss.” Radiohead will play the opening night of Glastonbury on 23 June, 2017 - marking their first UK festival appearance since 2011, when they played a ‘secret set’ on Glastonbury's small, outlying Park Stage.
