With over 120 exhibitors offering advice on the prospects for our youngest generation, the wide variety of apprenticeship schemes proposing an alternative to spending a further three years in higher education, has witnessed rise in the number of people opting to choose paid work experience, due to the high fees of most universities. In addition to apprenticeships, there was a distinct range of job sectors, including new careers in cyber security and biotechnology, and other possibilities to university such as studying abroad and the chance to take a gap year. A few universities came from abroad, including The University of Maastricht and a representative from The University of Sydney. For those taking A Level examinations this year, it gave students the opportunity to gain a wider understanding of what is available after finishing education in school. Therefore deciding whether university is the right choice and looking at the thousands of different courses available for students nowadays, to continue their studies. One student said, "I had been really unsure which university would best suit me as I was overwhelmed by the whole process. However after tonight, I feel far more at ease because I've narrowed it down to a few wonderful institutions." Illuminating talks from prestigious universities were held, explaining the merits of degree apprenticeships and flexible combined honours, how universities endeavour to promote employability and details about studying at a London university. All were immensely valuable, especially the lecture which presented profitable advice for applications to Oxford. Neighbouring Myton School pupils were invited to this biennial event, along with Warwick School and King’s High School students. Overall the evening was a thorough success, illustrating the many paths towards a rewarding and exciting career in the future.
