Sixth Formers at Malvern St James Girls' School celebrated outstanding successes in this year's A Level and AS Level results, marking yet another year of excellent academic and personal achievements for girls at the School.

The A level results show a stunning 26% achieving straight A* and A grades, with four students gaining A* in all four of their A Level subjects; 91% of the girls achieved Grades A*-C, with an overall pass rate of 99.5%. The AS Grades were equally impressive with 34% achieving Grade A.

A record-breaking number of seven students have secured places at Oxford and Cambridge Universities and the vast majority of girls are looking forward to going on to the University and course of their choice. As well as places at Oxbridge, MSJ will also be represented at other leading UK Universities including; London, Durham, Edinburgh, Nottingham, Sussex, Exeter and Bristol with students reading an impressive, wide-ranging list of courses including: Medicine, English, Law, Mathematics, Accountancy, Politics, Geography and a variety of Engineering, Economics, Management, Accounting and Science courses.

Head Girl, Ellie Kirby, from Tewkesbury achieved an A* in English Literature and A Grades in both Classical Civilisation and Drama to secure her place at Lancaster University, where she will be reading English Literature and Theatre Studies. Ellie said: 'Everyone's hard work has really paid off. The School has brought out the very best in all of us and we're just all so grateful to our wonderful teachers'

Local girl Rebecca Fisher from Upton-upon-Severn achieved an A* in Biology and Grade A in Chemistry and Mathematics and will be going on to study Medicine at Edinburgh. She commented: 'I worked really hard to get into Uni and I'm absolutely thrilled with the results. I think being at an all girls' school has really helped as you don't get so distracted and there's an incredible sense of family with everyone supporting each other'

Rebecca's father, Mr Mark Fisher, added: 'The School has been fantastic and it's definitely been the best School possible for Rebecca. MSJ has a wonderful warm ethos and every member of staff contributes to this unique School community. She's been a very active member in School life and participated in a vast range of extra-curricular activities which we believe has helped her to get into Medicine, being such an outstanding all rounder. The School prepares girls for life in the broadest sense and has definitely offered Rebecca far more opportunities than she might have had anywhere else'.

Headmistress, Mrs Patricia Woodhouse, member of the Girls' School Association, said: 'These spectacular results reflect MSJ's reputation for academic success; they highlight too the breadth and depth achievable from an all-girls school offering an extended curriculum and rich extra-curriculum programme. This is also thanks to our dedicated, high quality teaching staff, working within an inclusive and vibrant environment which gives each girl the opportunity to excel at what she does best. The girls are given personally tailored, expert advice when choosing and preparing for their University places; every student can expect to leave Malvern St James with an excellent education she will be proud of and which will stand her in good stead for life! We are enormously proud of the girls and their outstanding achievements and we wish them every success in their future studies'.
