Bedford Prep Boys and their Green Fingers
Published by Bedford Prep School on Tuesday 22nd of January 2019
Bedford Prep School’s Gardening Club sprang back into action this week, planting the very first of this year’s seeds – carrots! The boys enjoyed a busy session, checking on the bulbs that they planted in the spring – they were delighted to see tulips, daffodils and onions all starting to shoot up! They also planted seeds using dibbers and made bird feeders using old toilet roll centres, egg boxes, bird seed and fat to attract birds ahead of next week’s RSPB ‘Big Birdwatch’. The boys’ feeders are hanging in the Nash’s courtyard, in the nature garden and the Quarry Theatre garden. There is also plenty to look forward to in the term ahead with a wormery coming soon, which will be powered by staff common room leftovers (the healthy ones!). The wormery will help the boys learn all about composting and the science behind the worms. Sessions on habitats and where food comes from are also planned for the weeks ahead, alongside lots of planting and gardening fun. It is always wonderful to see the boys trying new experiences, strengthening and forming friendships, and growing in confidence.
