Award winning and critically acclaimed concert pianist Margaret Fingerhut returned to Old Swinford Hospital on 1 November to perform in a recital with violinist Bradley Creswick, leader of the Northern Sinfonia.

The concert programme featured:
Mozart: Sonata in G Major for piano and violin
Elgar: Sonata in E Minor for violin and piano
Tchaikovsky, Bloch, Massenet, Kreisler & Sarasate: A selection of dazzling showpieces & lollipops

The following day Margaret and Bradley conducted a masterclass for the school's talented local pianists and violinists. Each musician was invited to perform a piece of music and was given constructive and friendly advice on how their technique, performance and interpretation could be improved, as well as hearing the other participants in their sessions.

'The recital was a huge success, with our largest audience yet of over 100 people' said Old Swinford Hospital Director of Music, Mr Tony Bridgewater. 'The students were inspired for their workshops today and learned so much from the professional musicians.'

Margaret Fingerhut is regarded as one of the most poetic pianists of her generation who has captivated audiences in many different countries with her recital programmes. As a concert soloist she has appeared with the London Symphony Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra and many more. She taught piano at the Royal Northern College of Music for many years and is currently Visiting Tutor at the Birmingham Conservatoire.

Violinist Bradley Creswick studied at the Royal College of Music and in 1984 became leader of the Northern Sinfonia.
