A Visit From The Britsh Army Band Sandhurst

Published by Kingham Hill School on Thursday 10th of November 2022

Pupils, staff and alumni were fortunate to spend the day with members of the British Army Band from Sandhurst. Our musical pupils had workshops throughout the day that were guided by the band and also had the opportunity to perform side by side with them. Members of the CCFs Pipes and Drums Corps also had instruction in the afternoon.

The Army Band is comprised of musicians from The Royal Corps of Army Music and is one of 14 Regular Army Bands in the British Army. Based in Surrey, it is a 43-piece symphonic wind band incorporating The Band of the Royal Logistic Corps and The Band of the Royal Corps of Signals.

Its main roles include providing musical support at passing out parades in the surrounding areas, such as Army Training Centre Pirbright and Sovereign’s parades for the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. Other engagements include dinner nights with smaller ensembles and supporting military sporting events.

The whole community enjoyed a lunchtime recital where they performed a range of traditional marching music to contemporary numbers by Billie Eilish and George Ezra to Hollywood themes. Mixed in with their performance, they gave short talks about their experiences of being musicians in the Army and what that entails.
