Theatre 'Beyond Borders' - ACS Hillingdon students attend theatre workshop exploring refugee crisis
ACS Hillingdon International School students aged 14 - 16 recently travelled to Verdala International School in Pembroke, Malta, to participate in a festival run by The International Schools Theatre Association (ISTA).
Attended by international schools from The Netherlands, Romania and Germany, the festival’s theme was ‘Beyond Borders’, which explored the plight and tragedy of people fleeing war torn countries to the safety of European shores.
The festival included a visit to a local refugee centre and students used verbatim theatre techniques to document the refugees’ experiences, striving to bring their stories, nightmares and hopes to life. Five ACS Egham International School students also participated in the festival, and all international schools enjoyed working together collaboratively.
Alyssa Ballard, Head of English at ACS Hillingdon, commented:
“We were all moved and inspired by the stories we heard and we learnt a lot about the role of the theatre in presenting real-life situations. ACS Hillingdon is a Global Patron of ISTA, and we look forward to attending more of its fascinating programmes next year.”Published: December 2 2016
