Culford Pupils Help Bury Hockey Club Dominate the Suffolk Youth League
Bury Hockey Club hosted the final round of the mixed under 10 competition at Culford Hockey Centre, in December. The competition was played in two divisions in a seven aside format. The club hosted to 150 under 10 hockey players from six different clubs, including many Culford pupils.
In the Premier division, the under 10 A’s, including Guy Melia (L2), stormed to victory with a huge points gap over the nearest team. In division one, Bury fielded two teams, which included Culford pupils Katy Gibbs (L2), Millie Hansgate (L2) and Chloe Gooderham (L2). Both teams dominated the division and finished in first and second place.
The under 12 girls A team played in the Premier division, finishing second. The B & C teams played in division one, finishing first and second. Culford pupils were Upper Second girls: Grace Baxter, Josie Gooderham, Olivia Whyte, Lulu Surti, Imogen Gotch, Leah Fitton, Patience Leslie and Alice Edwards.
The under 12 boys A team went into the final round three points behind league leaders, Sudbury. They played some attacking team hockey, winning all their matches, and finishing first. The B team finished a credible 5th position. Culford A team players were: Henry Derbyshire (L3), Lucas Nicolai (L3), Guy Salisbury (U2), Max Griffith (U2) and Max Woods (U2).
The under 14 girls started the final round in top position, but sadly finished third in the Premier Division. The B team played well in division one securing second place. Culford was represented by Louisa Gooderham (U3) and Tori Holt (F4).
There is only one division for the under 14 boys and despite continuing to try in every single match, the boys finished in fifth position. Gus Bentley (F4) worked hard in goal and Will Gibbs (F4) tried his best at centre to score some goals.
