Easter Rowing Camp on Italian Lakes
The Easter holidays saw a very successful training camp for the Boat Club in Lago d’Orta, Italy. Twenty Canford athletes accompanied by five staff joined together with pupils from King’s Canterbury for a great experience of rowing and sculling under blue skies and flat calm conditions with different combinations of crews. There was a significant amount of technical and physical work undertaken but the pupils also devoted time each afternoon to their academic work and it was pleasing to see pupils across the age groups helping one another. The camp was very productive and culminated with a Junior International friendship regatta in Monate which saw our boys and girls racing over 1000m and winning a whole array of medals.
Ian Dryden, Director of Rowing, commented:
“This annual camp is an excellent way for our pupils to consolidate their rowing after the Spring Heads, prepare for the challenges of the regatta season and also to form friendships and share rowing experiences with those from another school. We were very fortunate to have stunning weather and very good conditions and I hope all those who took part felt they developed both their fitness and their rowing ability.”
