Garden of Imagination

In an increasingly sedentary and technology driven world, our aim at Blackheath Prep was to create an immersive outdoor area that would enable children to embark on a journey of adventure and imagination. Careful thought was given to the design of the garden which we wanted to be aesthetically appealing and would be responsive to the natural way in which children move.

Elements of mathematics are represented by the idea of shifting scale, from the miniature teepee to the willow tunnel which reduces in height in the middle. Hexagonal shapes feature gently throughout and are most prominent in the three-dimensional stage which invite the children to express themselves freely.

As well as a wealth of opportunities to stimulate children’s imagination, this sensory area is also intended to offer space for tranquil reflection where particular sounds, scents and textures are enhanced.
