Culford Hosts Annual Tennis Awards

Culford’s Tennis team recently held their annual Tennis Awards Evening to celebrate all those who have excelled in the sport over the past year. The evening brought together tennis players from the community and the School’s bespoke programme with many Culford pupils winning prizes.

Culford winners included Charlotte Anderson (Girls Mini Red Tennis U8), Rocco Richardson (Boys Mini Yellow Tennis U9), William Anderson (Boys Mini Green U10), Charlotte Holmes (Girls Mini Green U10), Ralph Bartlett (Boys U12), Justice Hall (Girls U12), Derrick Chen (Boys U14), Kylie Bilchev (Girls U14), Harry Wendelken (Boys U16), Kira Reuter (Girls U6), Joe Tyler (Boys U18), and Lizzie Pam (Girls U18).

A special mention should go to Justice Hall (12), Kylie Bilchev (14) and Harry Wendelken (15). Harry has had an amazing year with highlights including playing number 1 for Great Britain in the Tennis Europe U16 Winter Cup Champions and winning his first ITF U18 International tournament in Hamburg. Harry is also the current Great Britain U14 singles and doubles champion.

Kylie Bilchev has also had a wonderful year where she achieved a year end Europe Tennis ranking of 8th position in the U14 age group. Kylie was also voted the Suffolk Young Sports Personality of the Year Award last November.

Justice joined Culford in September last year and has shown tremendous dedication to developing her game. Justice played her first Tennis Europe event in Holland in February where she won her opening round to achieve her first Tennis Europe ranking. Justice is currently ranked 6th nationally in the U12 age group.

Strength and Conditioning awards were also given to Ella Wood and Warok Rai in the U14 category with Abby Taylor and Joe Tyler winning the U18 awards.

Other winners included Scott Watson and Erin Berry, who are both part of the Community Tennis Programme at Culford School.

Head of School and Community Tennis David Hall said: “We were delighted with the number of people who attended the event. This is an indication of the number of players we have in the programme now across the school and community. The event is a fantastic way to reward the achievements of our players, which have been brilliant this year.”
