The Bishop’s Stortford College 1st XV Rugby team are through to the fourth round of the NatWest National Vase competition following a 17-11 home win against The Leys on Saturday 7th October. The team will play Langley School in the next round of the competition on Tuesday 7th November. After a slow start with intense defence from the College, the team gained increasing control and possession, holding the ball close and playing a very tactile game. Following a recent training session ex-England International Pat Sanderson, the team were able to demonstrate their newly improved skills in the ruck. Head of Rugby, Andre Beukes, said, “Possession in rugby is always key but the College have shown that, even with the slightest chance to break the line, they could do it. There were some impressive performances from the boys. Langley School will be fielding a strong team and we look forward to the challenges we will face.” Bishop’s Stortford College Rugby squad will be touring Portugal over half term, where they will play a number of matches and enjoy a coaching session by Pedro Leal, the Portugal Sevens Team Captain and HSBC World Series 6th best try scorer. They are sure to learn some valuable lessons for use in future matches.
