Dauntsey’s welcomes sports commentator and broadcaster Alison Mitchell to the School.
Dauntsey’s has recently welcomed sports commentator and broadcaster Alison Mitchell to the School when she presented a lecture to pupils, staff and members of the local community, talking about her extensive and fascinating career.
Alison spoke of her distinguished career as a sports commentator, from her time working for the BBC’s Asian network to becoming the first woman to commentate regularly on ‘Test Match Special’, presenting alongside cricketing legends Geoffrey Boycott and Jonathan “Aggers” Agnew.
Prior to the lecture, Alison met a group of Sixth Form pupils for a discussion which covered a range of topics including opportunities for work experience in the industry, to the challenges of keeping cricket relevant and interesting for a growing audience.
Luke, one of the Dauntsey’s pupils who attended the lecture said:
“Alison’s account of working in what has traditionally been a male-dominated industry was fascinating and it was interesting to hear about the challenges and prejudices experienced by her and other female colleagues.
“I’m sure everyone attending the lecture – both young and old - would agree that her talk made for a thoroughly entertaining and insightful evening.”
