Basketball students from ACS Hillingdon International School, recently returned home victorious from the International School Sports Tournament (ISST) Girls Division II Basketball competition, held at the International School of The Hague.

Beating teams from Munich, Milan and Israel to progress to the final, students took on the American International School of Vienna, who they beat 35-34 in a tightly fought match, defending their early lead to the very last minute. The win was all the more impressive as ACS Hillingdon had lost three times during the regular season to the same school.

Alongside playing basketball, students also had the chance to enjoy some sightseeing; visiting the world famous Hague city centre including the Plein and Grote Markt Squares, the beaches at Scheveningen and Kijkduin, and sampling traditional Dutch cuisine.

John Surguy, Athletic Director at ACS Hillingdon commented on the win:

'The students should all feel very proud of their achievement. They faced some tough competition, especially in the final, but didn't let that daunt them, showing great character and resilience.'

The ACS Hillingdon Girls Basketball team have now been promoted to division one of the ISST, the highest level of the tournament and will attempt to defend their winning streak in matches starting in November 2013.
