Published Tuesday 7th of May 2013 11:17:48 AM

A choir from a Calne school hit the high note when they won a major cup in the Swindon Music Festival. Pupils from St Margaret's Preparatory School, Calne, won the Junior Choirs aged 11 and under category and carried off the A J May Trophy.
The choir, made up of children from Year 5 and 6 sang two contrasting songs 'I Believe In Springtime' by John Rutter with solos from Holly and Hermione and '42nd Street'.

Music Teacher Hilary Gibbin said: 'The competition was very fierce, but we were delighted to win with an overall score of 89 marks, a Distinction. It was lovely to see the children enjoy themselves so much.'

Swindon Music Festival has been running since 1909 and has grown into a major annual event. Among previous entrants was celebrated jazz player Jamie Cullum, who competed in the piano solo and piano duet classes in 1989 and 1989.
