St Margaret's Prep Schools' Brilliant Young Minds

Published Tuesday 21st of May 2013 10:41:03 AM

Everything added up for a pupil from a Calne school, who demonstrated that when it comes to figures she knows all the answers.

Jolie, 11, a pupil at St Margaret's Preparatory School, won a bronze medal in The Primary Mathematical Challenge (PMC) run by the Mathematical Association. She was just one of 523 children out of 70,000 entrants nationwide to win an award.

The whole of Year 6 at St Margaret's entered the challenge under the direction of Maths subject leader, Chris Watkins. Jolie and fellow pupil Tommy, 11, were both among the top two percent of best performers from entrants all over the country who were invited to take part in the PMC bonus round.

Mr Watkins said: 'We are all extremely proud Jolie has won an award. It is such an achievement to receive recognition for Maths on a national scale. It also shows that Maths can be fun.'

Lesley Jones from the Mathematical Association said: 'It is great to be able to acknowledge brilliant young minds in the UK and to nurture the mathematicians of the future.'
