Oakham's best-ever A Level results

Oakham students are celebrating their outstanding A Level results, with a 100% pass rate and over a quarter of all pupils achieving straight A* or A grades.

Nine students achieved straight A*s. Head boy and captain of hockey Thomas McNally achieved 4 A*s in Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Physics. Georgina Shepherd obtained the 4 A*s she needed (in Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Further Maths) to secure her place to study Medicine at Emmanuel College Cambridge.

Headmaster Nigel Lashbrook is delighted that they are the best results the School has ever accomplished: 'I am incredibly proud that our students have achieved such impressive A Level results. It is exceptional that 85% of our A Level entries were awarded A*, A or B grades. It really is a testament to the incredible amount of hard work that both the students, and their teachers, have put in during the last two years.'

These results follow on from another excellent set of IB results in July. For the third year running, Oakham's IB students have achieved an average of 36 points or above. This is the equivalent of three A's at A Level and is considerably higher than the worldwide average of 29 points.

'These results really mark the end of a wonderful 'learning journey' for our pupils' says Headmaster Nigel Lashbrook. 'At Oakham we are dedicated to blending academic excellence with a richness of opportunity beyond the classroom. Students take part in a wide range of experiences and opportunities that will stay with them for the rest of their lives. I'm confident that our leavers will not only be taking away their excellent results and a great set of memories, but they will also be well equipped for the challenges ahead as they move into university, employment and beyond.


A Level highlights:
* 50.4% of exams were awarded A*/A grades
