Oakham's U18 Hockey squad travelled to Barcelona to take part in an intensive pre-season training tour.

The players trained at Barcelona's Royal Polo Club during their tour. As well as playing five matches, they took part in intensive training sessions focusing on attacking the goal, penalty corners and set piece practices.

'Oakham continues to be a great training ground for national squads,' says Ashley Denman, Director of Hockey at Oakham. 'Our great results are due to the intensive training that our pupils and coaches put into Hockey at Oakham. It is a real achievement for eight of our students to be selected to take part in The Futures Cup tournament, and it's great that the talents of Alice, Maddie and Monty have been recognised even further.'

Oakham won their first fixture of the tour against Churcher's College. End to end hockey was the story of the first half with Oakham taking an early lead. Jefferson, Roper and Spies were the goal scorers in the eventual 5-2 victory!

Their second match was against Royal Wellington, a strong touring side from Belgium. A fantastic first half with a multitude of shots on target led to a 1-1 draw at half time. The Belgian Goalkeeper was fantastic, saving some incredible shots. The second half was as equally hard fought, but unfortunately 2 quick goals from the opposition led to a 5-2 defeat. Joe Kendall scored both of Oakham's goals; one coming from a short corner set piece and the other a huge reverse stick strike.

The third tour match saw Oakham facing their old touring rivals, the Egara U18's. The squad travelled to Club Egara in Terrassa, an area just outside the city with fantastic facilities and a water based pitch. As with all the matches so far on this tour, the pace of the game
