Silver medals for the Hazlegrove U13 hockey girls

Having gained the title of IAPS U13 Hockey Regional Champions, the Hazlegrove girls were unlucky when the subsequent national finals had to be abandoned due to appalling weather conditions. They had been keen to try out their skills on a bigger stage! Fortunately, another tournament was hastily rescheduled, again at Queenswood in Hertfordshire, with all the qualifiers for the original tournament being invited to take part.

Although not all the teams were able to make it (including local rivals Millfield who Hazlegrove won against to take the regional title) the new tournament went ahead with eight teams in a modified round robin format. The Hazlegrove girls played some fantastic hockey, scoring an impressive 27 goals and conceding only 4 during the course of the whole day, including notable wins of 4-2 against Felsted (from Essex) and 4-0 against CLFS (from Surrey). In what was always going to be one of the toughest matches, the Hazlegrove girls narrowly lost 1-2 to Danes Hill (also from Surrey) who took overall honours.

All-in-all it was a great day of hockey and the Hazlegrove girls returned home extremely proud of silver medals!

Hockey is clearly alive and well at Hazlegrove and with some notable victories from the younger pupils this year, the future looks exciting!
