ACS EGHAM CELEBRATES MULTICULTURALISM WITH ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL FAIR

Published Thursday 17th of April 2014 12:04:30 PM

The Fair, organised by the ACS Egham Parent Teacher Organisation, was the culmination of a week-long programme focused on the schools internationalism, bringing together students, parents and teachers for a day of fun-fuelled activities.

A particular highlight of the day was the international market. Styled on a street market, over 35 stalls were located throughout the dining room and Performing Arts Centre, where a variety of internationally themed foods and craftworks were offered for sale.

There were many interesting and creative stalls, one of which was produced by a group of Grade 8 students who donated their proceedings to the Girl Up charity. Working in conjunction with the United Nations Foundation, the Girl Up campaign uses donations to medically and educationally support young women throughout the world, enabling them to become the leaders of the future.

A further highlight of the international market was cooking demonstrations by local chefs, Chiara Cerovac and Ben Piettie. Chiara produced a selection of authentic Italian dishes whilst Ben, a local restaurant owner and former MasterChef semi finalist, created an assortment of British meals for the students to try.

Students were also given the chance to participate in a football tournament. Held in ACS Eghams state of the art Woodlee Sports Centre, over twenty students were split into teams and competed against each other.

Marlies Herder-Raadersma, a parent volunteer on the ACS Egham PTO who led the team of organisers, commented on the International Fair:

The International Fair is one of the biggest events of the year at ACS Egham, so it is extremely satisfying to see it go from strength to strength, and a great honour to be involved with the organisation. It offers a brilliant way for the parents, students and teachers to express their identity and learn about other cultures. Thank you to everyone involved, Im already looking forward to next years event!
