Published Wednesday 20th of August 2014 03:15:59 PM

Girls at St Marys Shaftesbury are celebrating another year of outstanding A-Level results with 48% achieving A* - A, compared to the national average of 30.8%. There were exceptional results in Humanities with 88% of History students gaining A*-A while in Geography 100% gained A*-B.

Girls are taking up places at both Oxford and Cambridge to study Law and Classics and nearly all have been offered places at their first choice university. They are heading off to top universities including Exeter, Newcastle, Edinburgh and Manchester to study a diverse range of subjects from History and Politics at Edinburgh, Biomedical Sciences at UCL, Geography, as well as French and Arabic at Exeter, Physics and Nuclear Astrophysics at Surrey, Agriculture at Newcastle as well as Art, Theatre & Performance and Magazine Publishing.

The wide variety of subjects that St Marys girls are going on to study at university reflects the schools holistic approach to education where all talents are nurtured, respected and encouraged. The school has recently completed its most ambitious building programme with the opening of Rookwood, the new academic centre, and the impressive new centre for Creative Arts will also be fully in use from this September.

Headmaster Richard James says, I am extremely proud of the achievements of our Upper Sixth leavers and genuinely delighted that the girls are going to such a great mix of first class universities to study a diverse range of subjects. These are exciting times and our building programme shows our commitment to provide our students not only with first class teaching but with state of the art facilities.
