Nine cadets from the Royal Marine Section at Canford School in Dorset won the Pringle Trophy, the premier inter-schools cadet competition held over the weekend of 11-12 October, beating schools including Wellington, Harrow, Sherborne, Winchester, Shrewsbury, King's Taunton, Bradfield, Rugby and Charterhouse. Last winning in 1999, and runner up in 2010, Canfordians tackled the competition positively from the outset. The Pringle Trophy involves two days of gruelling tasks testing the skills required of all marines on the battlefield particularly their teamwork and leadership whilst exhausted and often against the clock.

Canford scored 192 out of a possible 240 points, winning three of the twelve elements whilst performing well in all the other disciplines. This performance saw them stretch their lead over Shrewsbury, Wellington and Kings Taunton to claim the coveted trophy presented by Major General Jerry Thomas CB DSO.

Lieutenant Colonel Dan Culley, Commanding Officer of Canfords CCF and Director of Activities and Outdoor Challenges, was delighted with the pupils achievements:

Many congratulations on this very fine performance by our marines in a tough competition against some excellent teams from schools across the country. The Canford team tackled the challenge with real determination, courage and perception and I am delighted that their efforts were so well rewarded.
