ACS Hillingdon students, aged 14 to 18, recently took part in a sports tournament against Parisian international schools as part of an ongoing sporting relationship that began over 20 years ago.

Sports teams from ACS Hillingdon participated in a series of friendly matches during the three day trip, as part of a cultural exchange where students resided with volunteer host families during their stay. Cross-country, soccer and volleyball teams from ACS took part in matches against students from the British School of Paris and the American International School of Paris.

All ACS teams played well against tough competition with Olivia Janke from the Junior Varsity Girls Cross Country team winning the entire girls' 5km race beating all 29 runners on a hard and wet course. Olivias sister, Anna Janke, finished a commendable fourth place overall. The Cross Country teams success continued with Zach Klein, from the Junior Varsity Boys team, running a strong race and finishing in 23rd place within a field of 42 experienced runners.

In the second half of their visit, the ACS teams spent a weekend in Antwerp where they continued with their matches, playing against Antwerp International School in Belgium. Students also had time for some sight-seeing and visited the historic Saint-Germain-en-Laye.

Jett Russell, Director of Athletics at ACS Hillingdon, commented on the success of the trip:

It was a great weekend for our teams they forged new friendships and developed their self-confidence as sports players and team members. Tournaments like this are a great opportunity for students to compete against others from across the world as well as learn about self-discipline and team work, both very important life skills.
