'Poetry Palace' created for poetry week at ACS Hillingdon

Approximately 150 ACS Hillingdon Lower School students, aged four to ten, recently enjoyed a truly inspirational poetry week.

Students were encouraged to celebrate and play with language, exploring lyrical words and the imagery created when used in poetry.

The 'Poetry Peddler', a role performed by Lower School Librarian, Peggy Travers, also visited classes daily, delivering the gift of a poem.

On the final day of the event the children celebrated reading poetry together in a specially created, magical Poetry Palace the library, converted with blackened windows, twinkling fairy lights, caves and dens; plus children from higher grades who came to read to the younger ones.

Peggy said: 'Language skills are extremely important, so we were pleased to create an event around Poetry Week that would get the students excited about poetry. The culmination of the event in particular was very special and I am sure will be remembered for years to come.'
