On Saturday Angus Guironnet, a Year 11 pupil at Thorpe House School joined three friends from his swim club to become the fastest swim team to compete in the Swim Britain event at the London Aquatic Centre in the Olympic Park.

Each team member had to swim four relays of 250m and the boys' team Swaggamamma was ranked the fastest with a total swimming time of 55 minutes and 39 seconds.

They joined thousands of swimming enthusiasts at the Swim Britain event which was organised in a bid to inspire 500,000 people across Britain to get fit and swim more! They also had the opportunity to meet the comedian and Swim Britain ambassador David Walliams and former Olympian Duncan Goodhew.

Angus is a keen swimmer and a member of his local swim club the Chalfont Otters in Chalfont St Peter. He trains six days a week, for two hours each session which means he swims a total of 6km a week. He learnt to swim at a young age whilst he lived in Bali, out of necessity at first because the beach had very large waves and they had a swimming pool in their garden. Now his love of swimming means he has no problem getting up before 6am to train with Otters Head Coach Kevin Jones and he also represents Thorpe House School in school swimming galas.

Swimming at this level requires a huge amount of dedication and discipline and Angus is determined to go as far as he can with his swimming career, though his looming GCSEs in the summer may mean he has to curb his swimming ambitions until they are over. Swimming at the Swim Britain event on Saturday was incredibly exciting and made him even more determined to focus on his swimming at competition level.
