Sherborne Girls Upper Sixth student Eleanor Roda has just discovered she has been offered a place to study Music at St Peters College, Oxford.

Eleanor, who is in the second year of her International Baccalaureate programme, joined Sherborne Girls as a music scholar in September 2013. She began learning the flute aged 7 and had passed Grade 8 with Distinction before she arrived at the school. Throughout 2014, Eleanor was Principal Second Flute in the National Youth Wind Orchestra of Great Britain which she enjoyed immensely. Her particular study interests include twentieth-century music, including Impressionism and post Modernism, and El Sistema, the concept of social change through music. Eleanors wider musical interests include the piano, harp and singing.

Within the IB Programme, Eleanor studies Highers in Music, History and English Literature, in addition to Spanish, Maths and Environmental Studies.

In addition to her experiences in master classes with leading flautists from the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Philharmonia, Eleanor says that her opportunities with the Sherborne Schools Symphony Orchestra, Senior Choir and Madrigal Society have fuelled her passion and ambition to study Music at Oxford. We congratulate her on this outstanding achievement!

Two former students have also received Oxford offers recently: Charlotte Hayton has an offer to read History at University College and Harriet Smith has an offer to read Classics, also at University College, Oxford.
