ACS Egham students bring home the trophy

ACS Egham students, Anika and Lukas Juen, were awarded a trophy at the Woodley Music Festival, one of the main regional competitions in the Egham area, for their piano duet performance of Montagues and Capulets by Prokofiev. The siblings played in the category 13 years and under, but won the trophy across all age groups for duets.

Fellow ACS Egham student Daria Geller won a Silver medal in the Piano Solo, 12 years and under category.

Anika, now 14, was 13 years old at the time of the competition, and has just completed her Grade 6 ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music) piano exam. Lukas, age 12, has taken his Grade 5 piano exam, but their winning piece is of Grade 7-8 standard. Anika and Lukas played as part of a piano trio last year, in the same competition, and won Gold.

Anika and Lukas have been studying piano at ACS Egham with Irina Walters, Music Coordinator, for the last three years. Irina commented:

I really enjoy working with my piano students on duets as they can make one instrument sound as if it is a mini-orchestra, and the experience gives students the ability to play in an ensemble. Although students often feel more confident to play duets publicly, as there are two of them on stage, they must work even harder on synchronisation. Anika and Lukas are very talented and have shown hard work, dedication and excellent teamwork skills.
