Drum Roll Please…..For Roseanna Gray

Published by Malvern St James Girls' School on Monday 13th of July 2015

Roseanna Gray, a Year 3 pupil at Malvern St James Girls' School, has become the youngest person in the country to pass grade 8 Drums. She passed her grade 8 Drums exam (Trinity College) in June with a Distinction, which makes her the youngest person to obtain this top-level exam by some 4 years. She began playing the drums as a toddler and showed a natural talent for music from a very young age. Both her parents Emily and David are musical and her father worked nationally as a professional musician and actor before becoming a music teacher. Roseanna has worked incredibly hard to achieve this result and it is down to her tenacity and also her father’s teaching that she has been able to excel at this very male-dominated instrument. Mrs Woodhouse, Headmistress of Malvern St James, comments “This is a fantastic achievement for Roseanna, and even better that she is trouncing the stereotype that drums are for boys. I admire her talent and dedication. As a musician myself, I know how hard it is to gain Grade 8 – let alone at the tender age of eight! The whole School is with me in saying “Congratulations!” We will watch with interest as Roseanna’s musical career unfolds.”
