A group of 18 ACS Cobham pupils recently travelled to Stratford-upon-Avon for a three-day Theatre Arts Programme Symposium hosted by the International Schools Theatre Association (ISTA). The Symposium was part of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Performing Arts curriculum and took place in the historical Royal Shakespeare Theatre, home of the Royal Shakespeare Company. Students developed their performance and co-operation skills through a series of workshops and seminars held by world-class IB examiners. Alongside other IB students from all over the world, the 17-18 year olds were encouraged to hone sophisticated performing arts techniques, such as ensemble work, character development and theatre interpretation. After seeing two performances by the Royal Shakespeare Company as well as taking part in the dynamic masterclasses with the performers, students were inspired for their own theatre performances at the Symposium. Martha Close, High School Drama teacher at ACS Cobham, added: “The Symposium was a fantastic way for the global community of theatre students and experts from around the world to come together. It was a privilege to hear from the Royal Shakespeare Company performers who really inspired the students with their enthusiasm, creativity and professionalism.”
