Students chosen to represent the UK for the 8th year running!

Published by Oakham School on Thursday 12th of November 2015

For a record eight years in a row, students from Oakham School have represented the UK at an international conference held at the European Parliament in Strasbourg. The Euroscola Conference is a unique event for schools to learn about European politics by experiencing it first-hand. 19 Oakhamians joined 500 school students from across the European Union to take part in this prestigious conference. They were all able to act and work as a Member of European Parliament for a day. Placed in MEPs’ seats, the students debated on current European issues like migration, youth employment and the future of Europe. They also met in committees and drafted reports, which were then presented and subjected to a vote in a final plenary session. Oakham was the only school representing the United Kingdom and has now attended the Euroscola Conference for an impressive eight years in a row. “It’s a real honor to be continually asked to represent the UK,” says Oakham’s Head of Politics, Laurence Ward. “It shows just how well-known the quality of our Politics Department is at Oakham, as well as our strong reputation in debating at the Model United Nations.” He continues: “The students found it a highly informative and interactive learning experience which will assist them in their studies of international relations and the EU in both their IB and A Level courses.”
