Culford School U18 Girls’ Hockey squad have been crowned Eastern Region Champions after a thrilling day at Redbridge Sports Centre, London. Culford started confidently with a 5-0 defeat of King’s Canterbury with Issy O'Brien-Miller (15), Ella Dowling (17) and Lucy Holder (17) on the score sheet. The next team, Kent College, were tough, but Culford came out as 3-0 winners with Emma Watson (17) scoring two goals before half time. Ella Dowling sealed the win in the second half with an incredible strike. The final game of the day was against Framlingham College and, despite knowing that a draw was enough to get them through, Culford played some great attacking hockey and took the lead through Maria Andrews (17). A late equalising goal wasn't enough from Framlingham, and Culford were deservedly crowned East Region Champions. The team will soon be able to boast a new pitch to train on in anticipation of the Nationals, as Culford’s second AstroTurf pitch is now officially under construction. This is a project in partnership with Bury Hockey Club who have secured the funding for the new pitch. Culford’s U18 Girls’ team are now ranked as one of the top 8 sides in the country and will represent the region at the National Schools’ Finals on 9-10 March to be held at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
