ACS Hillingdon students enchanted by magical 'Poetry Palace'

Lower School students at ACS Hillingdon have enjoyed a captivating two weeks of activities and magical readings celebrating poetry. The four to 10-year-olds were encouraged to play with language and sounds in the classroom and library, exploring how poetry can paint a picture with words. The ‘Poetry Peddler’, a role performed by Lower School Librarian, Peggy Travers, also visited classes daily, delivering the gift of a poem for students to hear, read and explore. Ending with a sprinkle of magic, the children shared poetry together in a specially created Poetry Palace – the library, transformed with blackened windows, twinkling fairy lights, caves and dens; plus older students who came to read to the younger ones. Peggy said: “Celebrating poetry is a wonderful way for children to discover a world of creativity through language and sound. We have all thoroughly enjoyed the celebration and I hope they have been inspired to continue exploring poetry in many different ways.”
