Bryanston team wins at the National Schools Kayak Championships

Published Thursday 17th of December 2015 03:31:55 PM

Eight Bryanston pupils competed in the National Schools Kayak Championships on the Thames at Dreadnought Reach in November. Conditions were windy, and on occasion very windy indeed. In the morning's Sprint Regatta Gus G and Tom E came 2nd and Henry W and Toby K 3rd in the Individual Trophy (combined time for 500m and 200m). The main feature of the event took place in the afternoon – the 15 kilometre marathon race. This event saw some very close racing, with only four seconds separating the first three crews at the finish. Gus G and Tom E were placed 3rd, Henry W and Toby K 5th, Inigo H and Ollie G 8th, and James L and Archie O, the youngest crew at the event, were placed 20th in a field of 28. The Bryanston team achieved first place overall in the team competition, with a seven minute lead over the nearest team from Cranleigh and were awarded the National Schools K2 Marathon Team Trophy, which has not been won by Bryanston since 2000. Congratulations to everyone who took part.
