International musician James Kirby treated students, parents and staff to an evening of musical entertainment when he performed a piano recital at ACS Egham International School. The two hour performance was held in the Mansion House Assembly Room and included much loved Mozart, Debussy and Beethoven pieces. Fifty people gathered to watch James, who has performed at prestigious venues across the globe, including the Royal Albert Hall, Royal Opera House and the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatoire. Prior to the evening recital five students preparing for piano competitions, including International Baccalaureate Diploma students, were treated to a musical masterclass with James, where they learned more about piano techniques and were given constructive feedback about their performances. “I first learned of James Kirby way back in 1990 when he took part in the Tchaikovsky Competition, and I was a student in Moscow. We then met at the Windsor Festival, when he adjudicated a piano competition where one of our students won a trophy.” Irina Walters, Music Coordinator and recital organiser, commented. “To have a musician who has performed across the world playing at ACS Egham is a great honour. Our students had a wonderful time meeting James and were really inspired by the masterclass and the recital.” Photo credit to Marie Kent.
