A right royal knees up was enjoyed by pupils at St Margaret's Preparatory School in Calne when it staged its own party to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday. All 200 pupils took part in a day of activities last week to celebrate the monarch’s landmark birthday. In the morning there were traditional stalls and sideshows but some such as pin the tail on the corgi were given a royal twist. Instead of their usual school lunch the pupils took part in a street party in the playground with an array of food especially prepared by the catering department. Later they were entertained by Chippenham morris dancers Hips and Haws Clogs. Older children then took part in a dance workshop with the group and put on an informal performance for parents. Children and staff dressed for the occasion in red, white and blue clothes and many carried Union flags.Headmistress Karen Cordon said: “It was a lovely day of celebration.”
