Emily Barr visits the Sixth Form

Published Thursday 30th of June 2011 03:19:24 PM

On Tuesday 21st June Lower VI (Year 12) were lucky enough to have a Norwich High School old girl, Emily Barr, return to the school to give a talk about her life and success in writing novels. In her talk, Emily not only explained what she did after leaving Norwich High, but also how she came to work for The Guardian as a columnist, and was able to incorporate her love of travelling into her work and her writing. She lived in Cuba, France and England and has visited every continent. This can be seen in her writing and various novels. One fascinating story she told us was the time when she and her five month old baby boy were at the airport in Havana, Cuba, waiting for their flight home when Fidel Castro passed by. Upon seeing Emilys son, he stopped to greet them and had a photo with them both. It was experiences like this that Emily included in her books. We would like to thank Emily for travelling up from Cornwall to visit us. Her talk was interesting and engaging. Thank you. (Rowan Landis, Year 12)
