Pirate invasion inspires a treasure trove of delights

We can always rely on Chaplain to come up with an enterprising way to get across a message and this year’s launch of Operation Christmas Child at Blue Coat was no exception. With the help of Captain Wurr, aka our Deputy Head (Prep), accompanied by his fellow pirates and trusty parrot, the children learnt how to make a Christmas treasure chest filled with booty, ready to bring a smile to the face of a little boy or girl in a faraway land. Just as Jesus walked amongst lepers, healing them and giving them new hope, our Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes have given us the opportunity to show children around the world who are less fortunate, that they are special and valued by God. Excited to think that our boxes could show someone, somewhere else in the world that they are valued, pupils were inspired to bring together a bundle of treasure to put inside their shoeboxes. At our Prep Harvest Celebration, Canon Stewart Jones, a Governor and former parent, encouraged us to overcome greed by finding ways to be thankful for what we have and to look at ways of sharing with others. Arranged before us and stacked almost to the Chapel roof, we could see just how many beautiful boxes had been prepared by our Blue Coat families. A School record of 451 boxes have been gifted this year! Many thanks to everyone for their generous support which we hope will bring joy to the boys and girls of Belarus, and remind them that they are special.
