Pupils inspired by nature for this year’s House Singing

After weeks of hard work, the whole school came together for the House Singing competition on the final day before half term. Angles began proceedings with an impressive rendition of ‘Mr Blue Sky’, made memorable by Mr Noble dressing up as Mr Blue Sky himself complete with blue hair! Jutes then performed ‘Best Day of my Life’ with great enthusiasm and vigour. There was a great use of body percussion, actions and surprise in the form of some homemade props. Saxons brought a jazzy feel to the competition with their version of ‘I Wanna be Like You’ from The Jungle Book. They even wrote their own verse which included solos from pupils in Year 3 through to Year 8. The final individual house song, performed by Danes, was ‘Mountains’ by Biffy Clyro. The beautiful sound of traditional Irish instruments including the bodhrán and tin whistle was hugely effective when contrasted against the rock anthem. In the final performance of the competition, the whole school came together to sing ‘Africa’ by Toto. Beginning with a thunder storm created using body percussion, the song continued to build through impressively powerful singing and a final clap of thunder. It was a fantastic moment to see every pupil united in giving such a memorable and moving performance. After much deliberating, the winning house was announced as Jutes!
