Millfield Music, Drama, Dance and Art Departments joined in unison in the Johnson Hall to perform a tribute to one of the Beatles’ most iconic albums, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, which celebrated its 50th anniversary last year. The concert looked to bring together all of the performance art taking place at the school; from music to dance, comedy to drama, the fully sold-out performance featured a huge variety of styles and genres all taking inspiration from the album, which features Beatles hits ‘Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds’ and ‘With a Little Help from my Friends’. The audience even got involved themselves, donning masks to create their own version of the iconic album cover. Highlights from the night included Upper Sixth Lauren Edwards’ intimate performance of ‘She’s Leaving Home’, accompanied by strings and a traditional dance performance, and Upper Sixth Isaac Hughes brilliant arrangement of ‘Within You Without You’ that enraptured the audience. The audience also enjoyed Millfield Dance’s ‘With a Little Help’, a performance inspired by the song’s lyrics, with a group dance that involved lifts and working as a team. Camerata’s engaging acapella performance ‘When I’m 64’ was delightful, and the finale, where the Millfield Orchestra joined the house band for the albums finale, ‘A Day in the Life’, brought the audience to its feet in applause.
