Year 4 mathematicians inspired by Chinese tangrams

Published Thursday 22nd of February 2018 04:49:29 PM

Pupils in Year 4 have been further stretching their understanding of mathematics by using traditional Chinese tangrams. A tangram is a dissection puzzle consisting of seven flat shapes, called tans, which are put together to form shapes. The objective of the puzzle is to form a specific shape (given only an outline or silhouette) using all seven pieces, which may not overlap. It is said to be one of the most popular puzzles in the world. The Year 4 pupils have been looking at the tangrams and have been trying to arrange them into a variety of images.
