The XV will arrived home tired but proud after making history at St Joseph’s Festival in Ipswich. Playing against some of the top rugby schools in the country, the XV finished in joint 3rd place with Dulwich College in the Cup Competition, behind eventual winners RGS Newcastle who beat tournament favourites Millfield School in a hard fought final on Sunday afternoon. The Festival, now in its 32nd year, is played over two days, and involves 16 of the very best rugby schools in the country. Dubbed the competition “dark horses” by commentators, Denstone faced Eltham College, Millfield and RGS High Wycombe in the first round, with wins in the second two games propelling them into the Cup Competition with Millfield, whilst Eltham went into the Plate Competition, eventually losing in the final to Hampton School. Day two produced fiercely contested and narrowly lost games against RGS Newcastle and Hurstpierpoint, and a highly competitive game against Merchiston Castle where the boys performed with sheer determination to run out winners, 24-14. The Denstone team played with pride and determination and came home having put Denstone College firmly on the map in this gruelling competition. The highlight will undoubtedly be the fantastic win against Millfield, 26-14. Well done, Denstone! You should be proud - we are.
