Millfield honey raises £1000 for Avalon Hydro Pool

Honey made from hives on Millfield’s campus has raised over £1000 towards Avalon School in Street’s new Hydro Pool. The ‘Millfield honey’ was sold to staff and parents, with the profits given to Friends of Avalon PTA, who reached their goal of £1.08 million needed to build the specialised facility earlier this year. The pool will be built on the grounds of Avalon School, where it will be used by pupils with life-limiting conditions and by members of the wider local community. With the Hydrotherapy Pool build fundraising complete and the pool in sight, the charity are now setting their minds to funding the £115,000 equipment needed to fit it out. Pupils at Millfield have also been able to learn the art of bee keeping as part of their school activities, where the resulting honey will continue to be sold to raise money for charity. Millfield’s Head of Grounds and Gardens, Craig Richardson, says, “We’re delighted that our Millfield bees have been able to help raise some of the much-needed funds for Avalon’s Hydro Pool appeal. This honey will have been made from local flowers and fauna, so it is fitting that it has been used to help bring new opportunities to young people here in Street.”
