Kingsley School, located within the UNESCO North Devon Biosphere, and takes advantage of the countryside, coastline, the school's extensive grounds, excellent facilities, and its academic reputation underlined by its recent A level results to help develop a greater understanding of sustainability and environmental sciences for all pupils, from Nursery to Sixth Form.

This morning pupils in the Prep School have been learning about growing potatoes before planting their own crop in the Ecology Zone at Kingsley.  The variety was Mr Cain, which some of you may have heard of, especially if you like chips!

This afternoon a Year 7 science class are currently hands-on learning how to manage land, plant and soil ecology; and grow crops based on ecological principles that also absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere building up reserves of carbon in the soil.

Our School Ecology Zone, part of the School’s Earth Centre focus, provides an almost infinite number of opportunities for students to learn practical skills in both scientific investigations and horticulture practice run on ecological principles.

Kingsley’s innovative approach to environmental education has been recognised nationally and the school has recently received the title of ISA National School of the Year for Sustainability and Environmental Education 2020.
