Homefield Preparatory School has ended the school year in style by hosting an event to celebrate the pupils’ performance talents. A number of heats were held throughout the Summer Term where the pupils submitted videos of their performances for classes and year groups to vote for. This culminated in the Homefield’s Got Talent final on the afternoon of Tuesday the 6th July. Acts ranged from piano playing to tap dancing, and magic tricks to rock bands! The winning act was a rap about the School’s teachers, which was written and performed by Rahul Shah in Year 5.

The School was thrilled to welcome local celebrity Tim Vine, under the guise of his on stage alter ego ‘Plastic Elvis’, to sit on the judging panel. Plastic Elvis made quite an entrance by arriving in a bright red Cadillac. The boys were jumping up and down and cheering in excitement at this; Plastic Elvis was blown away by the reception. The School would like to thank Tim Vine/Plastic Elvis for giving his time so enthusiastically and generously in what is a very trying time for all performers.

To stay in line with the current Department for Education guidelines the final was held as a virtual event for the spectators. The performances and judges were filmed live from the ‘performance room’ and streamed to the pupils in their year group bubbles. Although separate, the excitement and joviality was tangible as cheers erupted around the school from the classrooms as acts performed.

As well as a celebration of pupils’ talents the event was held to raise money for Guide Dogs, which Homefield has supported for many years. Over the past two years the school community has raised over £1000 for the charity through various events and fundraising initiatives.

The talent show certainly provided a positive, fun and enriching end to what has been an uncertain and challenging year. The whole school community has continued to successfully work together this year; it has demonstrated its unfailing passion and drive to provide the very best learning opportunities for its pupils despite what the world throws at it.
