A New Headmistress, a Special Olympic Guest, the Story of a Games Maker and a Brand New Minibus!

St Hilarys School, Godalming have, within a fortnight of returning to school, been treated to a succession of exciting events. Firstly the arrival of the new headmistress, Mrs Jane Whittingham, who has already brought to the school a plethora of innovative ideas and plans for the future. Followed by an extraordinary day with Adelle Tracy, one of the Super Seven young athletes who lit the Olympic cauldron at the opening ceremony. Adelle generously sharing her exercising tips, Olympic stories and inspirational words with all the year groups. Every child shared in holding the torch that helped light the Flame of Unity and Adelles ceremonial shirt.

Miss Katie Hilder, Head of English and a Games Maker at Greenwich during the Olympic fortnight was part of the excitement, when wearing her official 2012 uniform, told of her incredible experiences in the press area and out in the park during the eventing, dressage and show jumping competitions. She described the incredible atmosphere when GB won their medals and the magic of the witnessing the Olympic and Paralympic athletes at the victory parade.

The final surprise came as a brand new school minibus arrived outside the school front door, with the St Hilarys crest and name emblazoned across it.

Head Teacher, Mrs Jane Whittingham, said, Today has been a very special day for the whole school, and we thank Adelle for sharing her enthusiasm and energy with the children. I am sure her visit will inspire them to achieve their goals and take on greater challenges. I would also like to thank Miss Hilder for bringing to life the incredible work undertaken by the Games Makers and the behind-the-scenes stories, all of which thrilled our pupils. Finally, we look forward to travelling in comfort in our smart new minibus!

She added, I am delighted to take over the headship of St Hilarys and plan to embrace change in a vibrant, creative manner, placing the school in the absolute forefront of preparatory education.
