ACS Cobham International School has recently appointed two new positions, selecting Simon Wright as new Academic Principal and Darryl Nel as Head of Performing Arts.

Simon Wright, the new Academic Principal, has been with ACS Cobham for 20 years and after a short while teaching in Chile, he resumed his previous position as the High Schools Head of English in 2008. As Academic Principal, Simon will be directly involved in meeting the needs of the teaching fraternity, aiding with curriculum development across the school.

Simon joins the administration team with a wealth of experience behind him and a Masters in education with an emphasis on curriculum, assessment and leadership management. He will play a pivotal role in alignment of the schools academic programmes and representing faculty members on the administration team.

In the meantime, Simon will continue teaching English, his first love, and will carry on leading the grade 12 IB Diploma English programme for the rest of the academic year.

ACS Cobham has also welcomed Darryl Nel as Head of Performing Arts. Darryl will be instrumental in co-ordinating the effective use of the new Performing Arts Centre, including a new auditorium to seat an audience of 500 people.

Darryl who has acted as Head of Drama since 2006, has been a champion of drama, music and performing arts directing many school productions over the last seven years, including The House of Bernarda Alba, We Will Rock You and The Trojan Women. This year Darryl and his team of assistants are putting fifty budding thespians through their paces in rehearsals for this Autumns production of Grease.

Darryl Nel, Head of Performing Arts, commented:

ACS Cobham has always had students who are incredibly committed to the performing arts creating several productions each year. Im really looking forward to spearheading the department in this exciting time with the development of the schools new Performing Arts Centre and helping to further integrate the discipline across the curriculum.

Tony Eysele, Head of ACS Cobham, commented on the new positions:

Im really pleased to welcome both Darryl and Simon in their new positions this year at a time when the school is going through such a transformative journey with the new performing arts centre and cafetorium regeneration. Both new additions to the team will help us cohesively integrate all aspects of the curriculum, both academic, sports and performing arts, to the benefit of our community
