Latest ABRSM music results include Grade 8 distinctions

Published Monday 7th of January 2013 09:32:57 AM

Canford musicians are celebrating excellent success in their recent Associated Board examinations. Over 50% were awarded the top grade of distinction, including four at Grade 8 level, with 96% gaining either a distinction or a merit.

Pupils were examined on a variety of instruments, including piano, violin, trombone, double bass and jazz piano. Five pupils took singing, with distinctions given at both Grade 8 and Grade 5.

Christopher Sparkhall, Director of Music, was delighted with the latest set of results:

These are the best overall results we have seen at Canford for some time. A distinction requires at least 130 out of 150 marks and to gain this pupils must display real musical flair. It was also pleasing to see the top grades in double bass and jazz piano as well as some of our more popular instrumental choices.

I congratulate all the entrants, who should be very proud of their achievements. They are the result of a great deal of hard work and dedication during a very busy Christmas term.
